I can confidently say that the original Outlast is the scariest game I’ve ever played. I’m not fucking joking. My girlfriend can’t stand it because I end up yelling or falling off my chair in fright, but I just can’t get enough of that sweet, terrifying adrenalin.
If you’ve never played either game, great news, you’ll soon be able to give them a whirl on your Nintendo Switch. Given the console’s portable nature, this means you get to embarrass yourself on public transport by yelping loudly when a deranged lunatic chases you down narrow, claustrophobic hallways.
Franchise developer, Red Barrels, made the announcement a few days ago via a Facebook post.
There’s no solid release date at this stage, but we can expect it to hit the Switch during the first quarter of 2018. Essentially, the Outlast games throw you into a world of horror where your only option is to run. There are no weapons to fight with, you must simply document what you see on a dodgy camcorder and avoid death.
In terms of future content, they’ve confirmed that Outlast II will not have any DLC expansions as its predecessor did. They are, however, working on a new title set in the Outlast universe, but are yet to share details on what that might look like.
But fear not, worried fans. You’ll eventually get the closure you yearn for according to the post. “We will, at some point, make an Outlast 3 and answers will be given,” it says.
“You can also check out The Murkoff Account’s epilogue. It takes places right after the events of the second game and offers some insight into the events in the game.”
I look forward to wailing uncontrollably on public transport when replaying both of these games next year.
