The Creators Of Pokémon GO Are Making A ‘Harry Potter’ AR Game & Sign Us Up

Niantic, the company behind the massively successful game Pokémon GO is working on an AR Harry Potter game called Wizards Unite.

The company recently confirmed to IGN that the game is very much in development and will feature some gameplay aspects of the famous Pokéman adventure. It will have players “exploring real-world neighbourhoods and cities across the globe… go on adventures, learn and cast spells, discover mysterious artifacts, and encounter legendary beasts and iconic characters.”

Fuck yeah, give me the spells. Niantic is producing the game alongside Warner Bros‘ studio, Portkey Games.

“The beloved Harry Potter stories have captured imaginations worldwide for more than 20 years and soon we’ll turn the fantasy into augmented reality, allowing fans and their friends to become wizards and witches,” CEO John Hanke said in a statement.

That’s really all the detail we have at this stage, but it’s easy to imagine running around hunting for exotic beasts or casting bulk spells and shit when this eventually drops. Given the huge popularity of Pokémon GO, we can only assume this will be just as big.

Released mid 2016, Niantic’s AR Pokémon game took the world by storm, amassing millions of players who, at times, became a massive nuisance to communities, even causing stampedes in some countries.

Essentially, this all boils down to swarms of folks dressed as wizards coming to a local park near you. Expelliarmus, bitch.
