More Deets Are Here On Both The ‘Battlefield V’ & ‘COD’ Battle Royale Modes

After the raging success of battle royale, whether it’s PUBG or Fortnite, every major game developer seems to be cashing in on the craze. While we’ve known that both Battlefield V and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will include their own takes on the genre, we now know a little bit more about how that’s going to look for each.

First up, EA dropped a fresh 6-and a-half-minute Battlefield V trailer, which details a number of its game modes, including Firestorm, which is what we now know its battle royale mode is called.

Firestorm will be squad-based, allowing a total of 64 players split up into 16 squads, with the last team standing crowned the winners. As we saw in the last trailer, the circle in this instance is a literal circle of fire which will corral players towards each other. According to the narrated video, this will take place on “the largest Battlefield map ever,” so expect big things. You’ll be able to man vehicles across the map and destroy buildings, which should add an interesting twist to the genre.

That’s about all we know for the moment, so we’ll have to wait for specifics as they drop. You can check out the video – which also goes into BFV’s other game modes – below.

There’s no new trailer for Black Ops 4, but the studio behind it, Treyarch, recently spilled the beans about its battle royale mode, Blackout, to Game Informer. While the team say they have tested it with 100 players, they’ll be settling on a maximum of 80 for the moment in an effort to put “the quality of gameplay first over hitting an arbitrary number,” co-studio head, Dan Bunting, said.

“What’s really more important to us than a number is that the gameplay experience is as refined as it can be, that’s it the ideal perfect format for what players are going to play,” he continued.

“So we’re starting with 80 players, but we’ve gone higher than that. Whenever we launch a game as a beta or whatever, that’s the beginning of something. We’re going to actively be participating in the community and taking feedback, making changes and adapting, evolving the game as feedback rolls in. So there’s a lot that can go on that can happen beyond that first impact of the game going out there.”

Game Informer has also confirmed that there will be zombies in Blackout, which seems weird, but that’s probably just me. You’ll also be able to fang around in vehicles including an inflatable boat, a small helicopter, a cargo truck, and an ATV.

Black Ops 4 will drop on October 12 with a beta planned for mid September, and Battlefield V is out on November 20 with a beta beginning on September 6 (but it won’t include Firestorm, which will be added after release). Both will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
