Two Legends Release An HD Overhaul For Classic ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Game

EA made a whole bunch of Lord of the Rings games during its reign as rights holders. Some were great, others were meh, but The Battle for Middle-Earth strategy games were the tits.

For those not familiar with the games, they allowed you to control armies including hero units to play out some pretty epic battles. The first game was released in 2004 and since the LotR licensing rolled over to Warner Bros, you can’t actually purchase them anymore.

A couple of die-hard fans couldn’t give a shit about that, so they decided to bring the original game into the HD era by releasing a visual overhaul for it. Shitty, blocky-looking lumps of pixels are now far more representative of their on-screen counterparts.

If you’re keen to give it a whirl, you can get the HD files right here. It’s designed to be used on T3A: Online, a server that’s running the game, which is important seeing as though EA’s official servers shut down seven years ago.
