17 Y.O. Pro ‘Overwatch’ Player Gets $188K Contract & His Mum Had To Sign It

You’re probably aware by now that eSports is a pretty big deal. Not only do folks around the world pack into stadiums to watch events go down, the sponsorship dollars dropped by big companies are absolutely colossal. Even traditional sports leagues, including the AFL in Australia, are getting in the action.

With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that players in the big leagues get paid a lot of money, but fucking hell, it’s still wild to see it come up.

As a result of a bidding war for pro Overwatch player, JaySinatraaWon, he now gets paid an incredible $150,000 USD ($188,394.88) per year. This places the 17-year-old gamer’s salary at $100,000 USD ($125,596.58) more than the league minimum.

NRG eSports and Cloud9 were both thirsty as fuck for the young player, but the former won out at the end of the day. Because he’s still a minor, Sinatraa’s mum had to sign the contract on his behalf.

Old mate will also cop benefits like health insurance and superannuation as part of the gig, along with a share of at least 50 percent of all bonuses from tournaments and events. At the end of the day, he could pocket millions if his team plays well. Not bad for video games, huh?
