Here’s Everything Else Nintendo Announced Today Featuring Scared Luigi

After today’s Nintendo Direct, Switch owners will certainly have a lot to look forward to over the next year or so, particularly fans of the Animal Crossing franchise. We’ve already covered that little gem, but let’s have a look at what else the company announced today.

Luigi’s Mansion 3

First up, we get a glimpse at the brand new Luigi’s Mansion 3, which is currently in development. Like the Animal Crossing teaser, not much is revealed about the title, other than it’s coming in 2019 and seems to play much like its predecessors. It also says “working title” underneath, so uh, I guess that’ll change at some point.

“We have a lot to say about the game, but we’ll have to save that for another time,” Nintendo’s Shinya Takahashi said in the video. What a tease.

You can watch its reveal below.

Nintendo 3DS games

A bunch of titles for the 3DS were also announced, including 2010’s Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn, which was originally released on the Wii. That’ll be out next year. Here’s what else is coming to the platform.

  • Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey [Jan 11, 2019]
  • Luigi’s Mansion [Oct 12, 2018]
  • YO-KAI WATCH BLASTERS [out now]

Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

In the same way Mario Kart 8 copped a deluxe version, so too is the classic Super Mario Bros. U, which will now include the new Super Luigi U., which is old mates very own adventure that doesn’t take place in a fucking haunted mansion for once. It’s about time old mate caught a break. The title will hit shelves on January 11, 2019. Check out the trailer below.

Katamari Damacy

I’ve never played this game, but it’s getting a HD remaster for the Switch. From what I can tell, you play a bloke with a huge head who rolls stuff around. Seems like a fun time. It’ll be out later this year. Trailer below.

Nintendo Switch Online

The company dropped some fresh deets on its upcoming online service, including the release date, which is September 18. It’ll include classic NES games, cloud save support for most games, and online play. A 12-month subscription will set you back $29.95, which seems pretty reasonable to me.

You’ll also have access to a supplementary smartphone app, which will allow you to voice chat with your mates while you play.

The Switch is getting a NES controller

It looks just like the classic, only without the cord. The wireless controller can even be connected to your Switch to charge. They don’t have a release date just yet, nor is there an Australian pricing, but they’ll go for $US60 ($84) in the US for a pair.

Cities Skylines is out today

The popular city management title is coming to the Switch. Like, right now. It’s already there. The Nintendo version also includes both DLC packs for free.

Assuming the controls are good enough, I guess it’ll be alright on the platform. I’m definitely interested to see how it’s gonna play.

A new RPG called Town

The folks behind the Pokémon Let’s Go games, Game Freak, is releasing a brand new title called Town (that’s also a working title). It’ll be out at some point next year. Suss the trailer below.

A bunch of Final Fantasy remasters are coming to the Switch

Crystal Chronicles, Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition, World of Final Fantasy Maxima, Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac AgeChocobo’s Mystery Dungeon, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy IX, and Final Fantasy X | X-2 are all coming to the platform in remastered form. Christ, that’s a lot of Final Fantasy. I’ll leave it at that.

Other stuff

There were a few other things Nintendo mentioned which I’ll list below.

  • Splatoon 2 is getting an update. I’m not entirely sure what they announced, but I think it was some new characters and guns?
  • Mega Man 11 coming to Switch on October 2.
  • Mario Tennis Aces is getting some new characters and other updates on September 19.
  • Some classic Capcom games are coming to the Switch on September 19, including Final Fight and Warriors of Fate.
  • Some new details about the upcoming Pokémon Let’s Go games, including special techniques.
  • Some Diablo III stuff.
  • Some more on Super Mario Party mini-games.
  • More footage of Daemon X Machina.
  • That new Yoshi game is called Yoshi’s Crafted World, looks pretty cute. It’ll be out Autumn, 2019.
  • A bunch of card and tabletop adaptations are coming to the Switch. They look boring.
  • Civilisation IV is coming to the Switch, butyou probably already knew that.
  • Some more footage of Starfox in Starlink.
  • Xenoblade 2 is getting an expansion.
  • Warframe is launching on November 20.
  • Just Dance 2019 is out on October 23.
  • Team Sonic Racing is coming this Summer.
  • There’s gonna be a Smash Bros. hardware bundle.

That’s pretty much it, folks. You can check out the whole Nintendo Direct below if you’re keen for a watch.
