‘Fortnite’ Is Introducing Bots Because The Top Players Will Not Stop Walloping Rookies

Fortnite is adding bots babey.

My biggest issue with video games is that I suck ass at them. I am just no good and I am not getting any better. I briefly had fun with Fortnite when it was first released and everyone was as clueless as I was, but it quickly became a Groundhog Day where I got utterly murked over and over by a roster of interchangeable, freakishly competent 13-year-olds. As one of the world’s foremost bottom-tier Fortnite players, I might be one of the few people who actually get a kick out of some upcoming changes Epic Games is making to how matchmaking works.

In a blog post today, Epic announced that it would be “introducing improved matchmaking logic” to Battle Royale mode, with the intention of making it “more likely to match with players of similar skill”. While this is self-evidently the point of matchmaking, one of the developments was slightly more surprising: the introduction of bots.

From Epic:

In the next Season, we are adding Bots to Fortnite. They will behave similarly to normal players and will help provide a better path for players to grow in skill. Bots will work in conjunction with the new matchmaking system, and as your skill improves, you’ll face fewer Bots. Bots will not be present in Competitive playlists.

I feel like the word “similarly” is doing a lot of heavy lifting there, but I for one am appreciative of the fact that I could maybe play for a bit without being ground into a fine paste by people who are not old enough to drive yet.

The changes will be introduced in patch 10.40, which is due to be released later this week.
