There I was, just going about my day when Nintendo just casually dropped a goddamn Dr. Mario mobile game announcement like it’s nothing, flooding my brain with intense childhood memories. I’m freaking out, folks.

Dr. Mario World has a pretty loose release date of Summer 2019 (our Winter) at this stage and is in development with Nintendo, LINE Corporation, and NHN Entertainment. Details are, as you can imagine, pretty scarce, but it sounds like it’s gonna be a fairly standard Dr. Mario experience, only on your phone. Hook it to my fucking veins.
The doctor is in! Mario puts on the white coat once again in the mobile game Dr. Mario World, targeting an early summer 2019 global release. #DrMario https://t.co/DTRBympHj0 pic.twitter.com/RfMZbbs3Mp

Like Super Mario Run, it’ll be free to download with the option of in-app purchases, which is standard fare for mobile games these days. It’ll hit both iOS and Android devices when release eventually rolls around.
If you’re not familiar with Mario’s strange medical side hustle, the OG Dr. Mario was released on the NES back in 1990 and played kinda like a weird Tetris where you had to line up capsules according to colour to kill nasty viruses. Check out a video of it below. I don’t think I could ever trust a plumber who suddenly decided he was a doctor, but hey, here we are.
Hell yeah, gimme that sweet nostalgia, baby.
