Cop A Look At The ‘Black Ops 4’ Battle Royale Mode Which Also Has Zombies

Call of Duty‘s take on the battle royale genre isn’t far off, folks, and today we got our first real look at the mode, named Blackout, via a new gameplay trailer.

Due for release in October, Black Ops 4 is set to be a multiplayer-only experience with a bunch of different ways to play, Blackout being one of them. In terms of setting, it looks like the team have taken cues from PUBG, as we can see glimpses of buildings that look like they’ve been lifted out of Miramar, along with construction sites and an area filled with shipping containers.

That doesn’t mean it’s going to be a total clone, though, we can also see an enormous dam in the footage and the iconic COD map, Nuketown. Blackout will also differ in other ways, like including zombies in the video game, which competitors Fortnite Battle Royale and PUBG don’t touch. As far as I can tell, it looks like the zombies may act as the danger outside of the circle, which is definitely an interesting take on that side of things. If it’s not that, then maybe a red zone type thing? We’ll have to wait and see I suppose.

You’ll also have access to a range of weapons and gadgets, like a rocket launcher, a grappling hook, and some hectic slingshot thing that shoots sticky mines. You can check out the footage for yourself below.

Black Ops 4 developer, Treyarch, recently told Game Informer that Blackout will also feature consumable items which give players timed perks. They’ll take up inventory slots, so you’ll need to choose which one you want to use over others or even potential weapons. These include:

  • Paranoia -Sends out an audible alert when an enemy sets their crosshairs on you.
  • Outlander – You take less damage from the circle and are given a speed boost when taking said damage.
  • Consumer – The time to heal yourself, revive teammates, and use items is reduced by 20 per cent.
  • Skulker -You move more quickly when prone or crouching.
  • Stimulant -Your health goes up 100 points.
  • Iron lungs – You can hold your breath longer when sniping or swimming underwater.
  • Looter -Let’s you see ammo, health, weapons, and other items through walls.
  • Dead Silence -Reduces the sound of user’s footsteps.

A beta for Blackout will be running from September 10, with the game due for release on October 12 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
