In case ya missed it, rumours surfaced across the interwebs last month claiming Zendaya had been offered the lead role in the remake.

Disney is actually making a live-action The Little Mermaid – this bit isn’t a rumour. Back in 2016, composer Lin-Manuel Miranda confirmed he was onboard the project in an interview with Vulture. At the time of the interview, Miranda said he would be working on new music with legendary Disney composer Alan Menken.

Miranda, who is in the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns, is known for his performance in and credits for Broadway musical Hamilton. Not to mention Miranda also composed a number of songs for Moana including the main tune, ‘How Far I’ll Go’.

The 38-year-old also named his son after Sebastian from The Little Mermaid so he’s a real big fan.

What is a rumour is Zendaya’s role in the remake.

It all started when The Hashtag Show published an article claiming Disney sources said Zendaya had been offered the lead role. Reps for both Disney and Zendaya declined to comment when the outlet got in touch.

Naturally, the news spread like wildfire leading to a number of reporters asking Zendaya if the news was true.

This included Variety who were at the premiere of the 22-year-old’s animated film, Smallfoot.

Zendaya told Variety the rumour is just a rumour but she would be down for the role: “I mean, yeah, why wouldn’t I?”

In an interview with PEOPLE earlier in the week,  Zendaya said she’s a big fan of the Disney classic: “It is honestly one of my favourite movies of all time. I was obsessed with it when I was a little kid.”

But again: “it’s just a rumour so we will see.”

Speaking of Disney…
