Back in February, the world was blessed with the news that a The Greatest Showman 2 was in the works. Director Michael Gracey confirmed the sequel, telling The Sun: Those discussions have started and we are working on one [a sequel] right now.” In a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Zac Efron dropped a little update on the musical’s 2.0.

Efron, former Wildcat, hopped on the telly show to promote his new Netflix movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile – the one about serial killer Ted Bundy. Of the sequel, the actor said it’s still extremely early days.

“Hugh [Jackman] is working on all sorts of things including a one man show,” he told Norton. “What’s next? I don’t know but I hope there’s a sequel.”

Efron added that he believes Gracey and the crew are currently in the writing stages of the project, which makes sense.

“I think right now there’s more emphasis being put on what will happen with it… No one is really sure right now, so that’s the honest truth.

“But I think someone is working on a treatment for something… I know they are, they’re working on a treatment for something.”

Considering, The Greatest Showman took about seven years to put together, fans might be waiting a while for the sequel.

The Greatest Showman stars Jackman as P.T. Barnum, a visionary who rounds up a unique group of performers for a circus known as The Greatest Show. The all-star cast also includes Zendaya, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Keala Settle.

While we wait for more lovely musical news to drop, you can do a complete 180 and catch Efron in Extremely Wicked, Shocking Evil and Vile when it premieres on Netflix, May 3.

The film, directed by veteran documentary-maker Joe Berlinger, tells the story of serial killer Bundy through the perspective of his longtime partner Elizabeth Kloepfer (Lily Collins).
