WATCH: The Intense Trailer For Daniel Day-Lewis’ Very Last Movie Is Here

Daniel Day-Lewis, the magical acting elf, has but one more film in him before he hangs up his shiny acting boots and becomes the world’s most wonderful pensioner.

Paul Thomas Anderson, who directed Day-Lewis in the quite incredible There Will Be Bloodis reuniting with the actor for one last go in The Phantom Thread, which has scored itself a lovely-looking trailer. Take a peep:

If that didn’t make a great deal of sense to you, here’s the synopsis:

Set in the glamour of 1950s post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Leslie Manville) are at the center of British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock’s life, providing the confirmed bachelor with inspiration and companionship, until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by love.

Nice. Now for me to go back to being weirdly mad at Day-Lewis for retiring, even though he is a sixty year old man and it would be weird if I told any other 60-year-old on the planet to never retire.

The movie is scheduled for release on December 25th this year. What a delightful Christmas treat.
