Not Even ‘The Umbrella Academy’ Stars Know If Season Two Is Happening

The Umbrella Academy

Call us naive but when The Umbrella Academy landed on Netflix and proceeded to impress both critics and fans, we sort of just assumed the series would be immediately renewed like many of its siblings. That, however, is not the case.

As it turns out, not even the stars of the show know what’s going on upstairs.

The Umbrella Academy is so weird but so good. Sure, it may take a while to get into but it’s just – without spoiling anything – a blast. The series is based on the comic books by My Chemical Romance‘s Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá.

Ellen Page leads the cast which includes Tom Hooper, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, David Castañeda, Mary J.  Blige, and Kate Walsh to name a few.

Hooper (Luther Hargreeves/Number One/Spaceboy) and Raver-Lampman (Number Three/Allison Hargreeves/The Rumour) were at the MCM Comic Con in Birmingham over the weekend and appeared to be completely out of the season two loop.

When asked the question, Raver-Lampman replied “I wish,” and joked that fans should “Call up Netflix.”

Back in February, reports circulated claiming Netflix had already renewed the show for a second season but the streaming giant did not confirm the news.  Although, in an interview with ColliderWay revealed he had already mapped things out for “future series”.

What I did for Steve Blackman (the showrunner) and the writers in that first writers room was to create an eighteen page document that laid everything out. Even of the graphic novels that haven’t come out yet. Which should equal eight when we’re all done. So I gave them the blueprint for what happens, because you do want to seed certain things in there for future series and the hope is that it’s a success so that you do a lot more of these. They’re very curious what Gabriel and I are doing next. We always send them the new comics. They really want to know what’s happening.

Hmm.

Anywho, Raver-Lampman also said she was “definitely shocked” by how well the series had done.

“We have no idea because Netflix holds all their numbers really close. But they are very excited,” she added.

“It’s great to see the response from the fans and that’s a good telling sign,” Looper continued.

You can catch The Umbrella Academy on Netflix.

On repeat.
