The ‘BoJack Horseman’ People Have A New Animated Comedy To Ruin Your Soul

In utterly excellent news, the creators of your favourite depression comedy BoJack Horseman have a new animated series coming, and Tiffany Haddish is already on board to star.

Tuca & Bertie is a comedy about two 30-year-old bird women (and friends) who live in the same apartment building. And judging by the one look we’ve got so far, it looks like it’ll be a similar style to BoJack (possibly in the same universe?) with anthropomorphic birds, snakes and dogs.

Haddish will play Tuca, a “cocky-care-free toucan“, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and a yet-to-be-cast name will play her neighbour Bertie, “an anxious, day-dreaming songbird”.

It was created by BoJack‘s supervising producer Lisa Hanawalt. BoJack creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg on board to executive produce, alongside two other Bojack producers (Noel Bright and Steven A. Cohen) and Haddish herself. Hell freaking yell.

Hanawalt, originally an artist and cartoonist, is largely responsible for BoJack‘s distinctive look. An old friend of Bob-Waksberg’s, it was with her drawings in mind that he created the series in the first place.

The series was picked up by Netflix, which is seriously investing in adult animation following the success of BoJack; recent forays include Big Mouth and F Is For Family.

“I’m so freakin thrilled to announce this thing I’ve been working on!” said Hanawalt on Twitter. “Tuca & Bertie, starring the incrediwonderful Tiffany Haddish.”

It’ll have 10 episodes, but that’s all we know so far. We’ll keep you posted as to when this is hitting your screens.
