The almighty beings at the network have given a straight-to-series order to the new project which Fey will write alongside good mate / frequent collaborator Robert Carlock (co-creator of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt). Not too much is known at this point but Variety reports that the 13-episode season will focus on a wealthy businessman who is gunning for the role of Los Angeles’ (Danson) mayor, but for all the wrong reasons. When he unexpectedly wins, mayor Danson will have to figure out what he really stands for, gain the respect of his office, and bond with his teenage daughter… all while being mayor.

With Fey and Carlock at the helm, expect some wholesome goodness and a lot of quality laughs.

The pair worked at NBC during their 30 Rock days and Danson currently stars in the network’s beloved series The Good Place. The actor was recently nominated for an Emmy Award – Outstanding Lead Actor in A Comedy Series – for his role as Michael. The show itself was also nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series, alongside Barry and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Series creator Michael Schur recently announced the end of The Good Place after its upcoming fourth season. In a statement, Schur said four seasons feels like “the right lifespan” for the show.

“At times over the past few years we’ve been tempted to go beyond four seasons, but mostly because making this show is a rare, creatively fulfilling joy, and at the end of the day, we don’t want to tread water just because the water is so warm and pleasant.”
