Continuing to destroy our hearts by acting in films far too realistic, Timothée Chalamet’s latest film has graced the internet in the form of a teaser trailer.
Beautiful Boy, based on the memoir of the same name by David Sheff, tells of a father’s journey through his son’s battle with drug addiction.
Chalamet plays David’s son Nic, a former varsity athlete and honours student, who becomes addicted to methamphetamine. David is played by brilliant human being Steve Carell.
David loves his son more than anything but doesn’t know how to approach or respond to addiction. Advice was either too much or not enough. And the effects the disease had on the Sheff family showed how destructive addiction can be.
Soon, trying to protect his son and family becomes David’s own addiction.
The memoir, which begun as an article in 2005 in The New York Times Magazine, finds David often reminding himself of the three Cs.
“You didn’t cause it.
You can’t control it.
You can’t cure it.”
In the original article titled My Addicted Son, David wrote:
“I was bombarded with advice, much of it contradictory. I was advised to kick him out. I was advised not to let him out of my sight. One counsellor warned, ‘Don’t come down too hard on him or his drug use will just go underground.’ One mother recommended a lockup school in Mexico, where she sent her daughter to live for two years.”
It’s an incredibly raw account of David’s experience.
In the teaser trailer alone, you see Nic as a son, boyfriend, brother, student, and addict.

According to Vulture, Chalamet could once again cop a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nod for his work on the film.
