The Opera House Will Turn Upside Down For The ‘Stranger Things’ S2 Premiere

Fair to say the thought of heading back to Hawkins for another dig at Stranger Things is making the insides feel fluffier than a freshly toasted Eggo.

The second season of Netflix‘s surprise smash hit throwback series is due to hit screens, in full, come October 27th. But for those absolute fanatics among you who simply cannot wait, boy does the Sydney Opera House ever have a treat for you.

The iconic building is being transformed into the Upside Down for a special fan event that includes the public premiere of season two’s first episode.

During the day on Friday, October 27th, a few hours before the series drops in full on Netflix and at the exact same time as the season’s premiere in Los Angeles, the Opera House is hosting what it’s calling the “world’s biggest Stranger Things fan event,” which will see the season premiere screen for fans in attendance. That means you! That could be you!

The event will transform the Opera House’s Northern and Southern Foyers into show-themed immersive experiences, complete with arcade games like pinball and air hockey, a ripping 80s soundtrack, and themed food including the likes of Benny’s Burgers.

From there, those lucky enough to score tickets will be whisked into the Opera House’s concert hall where the first episode of season two will be beamed in on a bloody big screen.

The event is one of a string of similar gatherings being held simultaneously across the globe in cities like Los Angeles, London, Sao Paolo, Milan, and Madrid. However the Sydney event will reportedly eclipse them all in terms of size and scale.

Danielle Harvey, the Opera House’s head of contemporary performance, extolled the virtues of the show’s Duffer Brother creators in a statement issued to media earlier this morning:

The Duffer Brothers have created a pitch perfect homage to ‘80s celluloid legends like Spielberg and Steven King that delivers the perfect shot of suspense and nostalgia. We are thrilled to present the world’s biggest Stranger Things fan event as part of the Opera House’s Contemporary Performance program – a home for visionary storytelling in popular culture.

Now then, tickets! The good news is they’re absolutely free; you won’t have to pay a dang cent. The bad news is they’re in fairly short supply.

Your best bet is to subscribe to the Opera House’s email newsletter, which will give you access to the pre-sale which begins at 10am on Wednesday, October 10th. Get at that via this link here.

The remaining tickets will hit the general public at 9am on Friday, October 13th.

There’s two sessions of the fan event, one beginning at 10:30am, the other at midday on the 27th, but both are expected to sell out quick as.
