Following the release of the first trailer for the upcoming Ted Bundy thriller Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, the internet has been somewhat divided over Zac Efron‘s portrayal of the notorious serial killer.

The film has copped a ton of criticism for “romanticising” a man who admitted to killing at least 30 women by casting Efron, a beloved heartthrob, to play him.

But after loads of online commenters had their say on the matter, one of Bundy’s victims Kathy Kleiner Rubin has now given her opinion on the film.

In a clip released by TMZ, she says that she has no issue with her attacker being portrayed by Efron as long as the audience “understand[s] that what they’re watching wasn’t a normal person.”

She disagreed with the internet’s stance that the film is “glorifying” Bundy as she believes that the charm of Efron is an accurate portrayal of how the killer approached his victims.

“It’s not really glorifying him, but it’s showing him,” she says. “And when they do say positive and wonderful things about him, that’s what they saw. That’s who Bundy wanted you to see.”

Rubin agreed that the trailer has a bit of a softer approach, but that it’s not as problematic as people are suggesting.

“The movie does glorify more than I think he should be,” she says, “but I think everyone should see it and understand what he was, even when he was the perfect son.”

She also believes that it would be wise for women to watch the film so that they can be aware of the potential dangers that could come at the hands of seemingly harmless men.
