Taika Waititi

In some lovely news, excellent man Taika Waititi has joined the cast of Free Guy, an action comedy flick starring Ryan Reynolds.

That’s two very, very funny people.

Collider reports Pitch Perfect‘s Utkarsh Ambudkar has also joined the cast. He joins Killing Eve‘s Jodie Comer, Stranger Things‘ angel Joe Keery, and the bloody hilarious Lil Rel Howery of Uncle Drew and Get Out.

Ambudkar is in Disney‘s upcoming live-action Mulan, too.

Way back in 2011, Waititi and Reynolds appeared in that utterly delightful movie Green Lantern together. Reynolds starred as the green superhero Hal Jordan and Waititi played science dude Thomas Kalmaku.

Good times.

In Free Guy, Reynolds will star as a bank teller named Guy who discovers he’s actually living inside a video game. Waititi will star as the owner of the company that created the game.

Shawn Levy (Night of the Museum, Real SteelThe Pink Panther) will direct the film from a script by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn.

And because he’s good at everything, Reynolds will also serve as a producer on the film. The actor is currently poking some fun at the Disney and Fox merge on Instagram, via Deadpool, while Waititi is spreading himself thin over a bunch of new exciting projects. There’s the American What We Do In The Shadows telly series co-created by Jemaine Clement and his WWII dark comedy Jojo Rabbit. In the latter, Waititi will star as a young boy’s imaginary friend Hitler – yes, that Hitler.

Rebel Wilson, Scarlett Johansson, Thomasin McKenzie and Sam Rockwell co-star.

Then there’s Disney‘s new live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian. Waititi is directing one of the episodes, created by Jon Favreau, but as of last week, it appears he might also be voicing fan-favourite droid IG-88.

Busy, busy man.
