On Instagram, without a caption, Favreau posted a picture of Waititi standing opposite a screen displaying a droid. And not just any droid, goddamn IG-88 – deadly assassin/bounty hunter hired by Darth Vader to track down the Millennium Falcon and capture Han Solo and his mates alive.

Also pictured: a red and gold Mandalorian helmet which may or may not be a reference to Iron Man.

Waititi is directing one of the eight episodes and, if you’re a fan of his work, you’ll know he has has appeared in a couple of his films including What We Do In The Shadows and Thor: Ragnarok in which he voiced Korg. So, what this picture is suggesting isn’t totally out of the question.

Other directors of the series include Bryce Dallas HowardDeborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), and Dave Filoni (The Clone Wars).

The Mandalorian, taking place after the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, will introduce us to another warrior in the Star Wars universe. The series is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order.

“We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic…”

Narcos‘ Pedro Pascal leads the cast which includes Gina Carano (Deadpool), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Carl Weathers (Predator), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man), and Nick Nolte (Warrior).

In the meantime, Favreau’s live-action The Lion King is right around the corner.

The film is slated for release this July.
