Josh Lucas & Reese Witherspoon Both Want ‘Sweet Home Alabama 2’ To Happen & Same

Well, with reboots and reunions up the yin yang, I guess this was only a matter of time. Actor Josh Lucas has just publicly expressed interest in a Sweet Home Alabama sequel and I am so fkn here for it.

The actor starred opposite queen Reese Witherspoon in the iconic 2002 romantic comedy about a fash designer named Melanie Smooter (Witherspoon) who returns home to Alabama to finalise her divorce from her childhood sweetheart Jake Perry (Lucas) so she can get hitched to her flashy new bae, played by Patrick Dempsey.

Speaking to the lovely ladies of The Talk, Lucas said that he “would do it in a second.”

“I think it would be so fascinating and obviously I don’t know where it would go, but I think it would be so fascinating to see where these two characters and the children and where everyone ended up. Are they still together? Are they divorced? Do they want to be back together? I mean, there’s so many different ideas that I think, you know, we all know life is long and complex and they had an interesting relationship to begin with, the two characters,” he explained.

He added: “I mean, the fact that they were together from when they were children, I would love to see what’s going on 20 years later.”

Nearly two years ago, Witherspoon said in a Facebook Live Q&A session that she, too, would revisit her character if given the chance.

“We are not making a sequel that I know of, but if Disney wants to make a sequel they can just call me,” she said. “I would happily make Sweet Home Alabama 2.”

The nostalgia bug has well and truly bit Witherspoon on the butt as she recently confirmed that she’s working on a Legally Blonde follow up via the following vid:

Could someone, somewhere from some network pls make both of these projects happen on the asap? DO IT!
