Henry Cavill And His Mighty Chin Are Reportedly Leaving The ‘Superman’ Films

Just like his moustache, Henry Cavill may soon be erased from the DC cinematic universe.

Warner Bros., who are responsible for the latest batch of gritty superhero films under the DC banner, are reportedly investigating ways to move forward without Cavill as Superman.

Citing sources within the film studio, The Hollywood Reporter states Cavill’s Superman was set to cameo in the upcoming Shazam!, but scheduling and/or contract conflicts kept the Brit from actually taking part.

And future appearances are not as likely as some would think. The studio is reportedly building towards a Supergirl storyline which, canonically, features Superman – well, Kal-El – as a tiny baby.

Unless Warner Bros. has drastically improved its retouching abilities, that means Cavill won’t be Supes in that timeline.

Then there’s the tiny fact that Cavill was recently announced as the lead of Netflix‘s enormous new The Witcher series, which could keep him from committing to too many new Superman roles.

Cavill’s appearances in the upcoming Wonder Woman, Batman, Aquaman, and Flash films are all unconfirmed.

A statement Warner Bros. provided to The Hollywood Reporter claims “we have made no current decisions regarding any upcoming Superman films,” but it would hardly be the first re-casting in the revised DC cinematic universe  – looking at you, Affleck.

In other news: does anyone know if John Goodman is free around 2020? No reason.
