‘Super Troopers 3’ Is Already In The Works & It’s Got A Marvel Of A Title

Quite shockingly, Super Troopers 2 made money. A lot of money. A giant pile of money. Well over twice its budget, in fact. So it should be of little surprise to any of you that the bong is being hit for a third time, with Super Troopers 3 officially on the way.

The Broken Lizard gang made an appearance at the sprawling and always-enlightening San Diego Comic-Con International, announcing in the process that despite the fact that it took 17 years to get the sequel into cinemas, fans probably won’t have to wait nearly that long for the third.

Famously, Super Troopers 2 managed to raise a staggering USD$4.7million via crowdfunding, in what was one of the most successful movie-related crowdsourcing campaigns of all time. Broken Lizard had originally set a goal of USD$2million for the campaign; a target that was met in just over 26 hours. Following that, the team was able to raise a further $8million in private funding, and a $2.8million tax rebate from the state of Massachusetts brought the total budget for the film to USD$13.5million.

Remarkably, it raked in $31.6million at the box office.

Speaking at Comic-Con, Jay Chandrasekhar hinted that the third movie in what they joked was their “cinematic universe” would not require crowdfunding, given how successful the second one was.

I don’t think we will crowd fund the next one. We needed a favour from our fans on the last one. They delivered. I don’t know that we need to make them pay for the next one.

In the process, Chandrasekhar revealed what’s apparently the full title for the third movie – Super Troopers 3: Winter Soldiers.

Whether that’s actually serious or not – or whether it’s a sly nod Comic-Con to the Marvel Cinematic Universe – remains to be seen. But the gang also joked that the gag would be they’d call the movie that and yet shoot in the summer. So who knows at this point.

But hey, at the end of the day: Super Troopers is a trilogy.

Meow how about that.
