The ‘Summer Of 84’ Trailer Has Major Hawkins Vibes But With A Serial Killer

If you’re keen for another nostalgic VHS/bike-riding/walkie-talkie/coming-of-age suspenseful thriller flick then Summer of 84 might just fill the void while we wait for Stranger Things and It to return.

This young adult horror flick is the follow-up to the 2015 Canadian film Turbo Kid by the RKSS directing trio. They’re otherwise known by their real names of François Simard, Anouk Whissell, and Yoann-Karl Whissell.

Summer of 84 is about a group of teenage friends who spend their summer spying on their creepy-ish neighbour – a police officer, who they believe is a bloody serial killer. The moody group’s lead by 15-year-old Davey Armstrong (Graham Verchere)- your friendly neighbourhood conspiracy theorist who’s convinced this police officer’s responsible for all the missing people splashed across their local news. Much alike the kids in Hawkins and Derry, these four teenagers find themselves in seriously deep shit when their investigating turns dangerous.

It’s a relatively fresh-faced cast with Judah Lewis, Harrison Houde, and Caleb Emery making up the rest of the gang. Tiera Skovbye also stars in the film as does familiar face Rich Sommer who’ll you know for his acting in the Mad Men series. Sommer plays creepy-ish police officer, Wayne Mackey.

The horror flick first premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival but will see its official US release come August 3.

If you’re curious, Turbo Kid is based in a post-apocalyptic (when post-apocalyptic films were all the rage) wasteland and tells the story of a comic book fan who sets out to save his mate from a batshit tyrannical overlord named Zeus.

Zeus likes to grind his captives into water… sounds like a ride.

Summer of 84 will land in cinemas August 3.
