The very good people at SBS are launching a new channel next month. It’s called SBS World Movies and it’s set to show a whole bunch of new and classic international titles all-day, every day, on free-to-air. Part of this expansive collection is a number of Studio Ghibli movies… enough to last you a whole weekend. That’s right my friends, it’s marathon time.

Studio Ghibli Weekends will kick off Saturday, 6 July with all your cult favourites showing from 6:00am to 7:30pm. In no particular order, that’s:

- Laputa: Castle In The Sky
- Ponyo
- The Secret World of Arrietty
- The Boy And The Beast
- The Castle of Cagliostro
- From Up On Poppy Hill
- Howl’s Moving Castle

- Tales From Earthsea
- The Wind Rises
- When Marnie Was there
- The Red Turtle
Again, that’s every single weekend in July.

Women In Film, another special film collection, will hit the network from Thursday, 4 July on SBS World Movies. Expect to see Pin Cushion (Thursday, 4 July at 9:30pm), Into the Forest (Thursday, 11 July at 9:30pm), the Aussie premiere of Belle (Thursday, 18 July at 9:15am), and another Aussie premiere of Pearl (Thursday, 25 July at 7:30pm).
SBS says its new channel will air over 700 films each year. It will also mark cultural events, festivals, and celebrations like the Lunar New Year, Diwali, Mardi Gras, and International Women’s Day with a specially curated selection of movies.
SBS World Movies will launch July 1.
