Sony Has Dropped A Lil’ Update On Its Long-Awaited ‘Uncharted’ Movie

Uncharted

Just when you really forgot about it, Sony has given fans a little update on its upcoming Uncharted movie. The film adaptation of the video game series has suffered its fair share of setbacks over the past couple of years however Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Chairman and CEO, Tony Vinciquerra has ensured the film is now in “advanced development.”

Vague but at least it’s still happening.

The film, which has no set release date yet, has lost three directors since being in development. In December 2018, then director Shawn Levy dropped out for another film by 20th Century Fox. But, never fear because director Dan Trachtenberg has stepped in to save the day. His works include 10 Cloverfield Lane and the 2016 Black Mirror episode Playtest. Trachtenberg will work off of a script by Joe Carnahan, who has The Grey, The A-Team (2010), and Smokin’ Aces to his name. Tom Holland, as in Spider-Man, is set to star as a young Nathan Drake.

As you can probably tell by that casting choice, the Uncharted movie will be a prequel to the games.

If you’re interested, Levy dropped out of Uncharted to direct Free Guy in which Ryan Reynolds plays a bank-teller who discovers he’s trapped in an open world video game. The film co-stars Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi so it’s probably one to look out for.

In the meantime, let’s watch / rewatch Nathan Fillion‘s Uncharted short film which honestly never fails to impress.

As for Holland, you can catch him in his forthcoming Spider-Man flick Far From Home when it flies into Aussie cinemas Monday, 1 July 2019.

If you somehow haven’t already, you should probably watch Avengers: Endgame before this one as Far From Home picks up right where Endgame dropped off.
