‘The Sinner’ Is Coming Back For A Gruesome Season 2, Minus Jessica Biel

The Sinner, one of the most gripping and self-contained drama series in recent memory, is definitely coming back for a second season. And no, it won’t have Jessica Biel as sympathetic murderer Cora Tannetti.

USA Network has announced a second batch of episodes will instead follow Bill Pullman’s troubled Detective Ambrose as he investigates the murder of two parents by their 11-year-old son.

Chris McCumber, head honcho of entertainment over at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, said the new instalment will maintain the tone and structure of the original series as Ambrose works out why, exactly, the kid chose to kill.

“In our second season, we’ll follow Detective Ambrose as he tracks his newest ‘why-dunnit,’ while staying true to the unique, edge-of-your-seat storytelling that captivated audiences and critics alike,” McCumber said.

Last year, Biel – who also served as executive producer – told Entertainment Weekly that “it was a surprise to us as well that, with the amazing viewership and the incredible journey that this show has taken, it was even a possibility to come back.

“Even getting over that has been interesting. But now that it is a possibility, we are really diving deeply with our creative team, our writers’ room. We’re hoping to set it up and see if we can come up with some amazing and interesting stories”

Director and executive producer Antonio Campos will return to the show, and will hopefully maintain the original season’s absolutely soul-clawing tenor.

The Sinner gained attention at awards season, including a Golden Globes nomination for Best Television Limited Series. Biel was also nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series.

We’ll see if Pullman can notch such attention next time around.
