‘Sex & The City 3’ Is No Longer Happening & The Stars Are Pointing Fingers

If you’ve been holding your breath for a third Sex & The City movie, well then, we hate to be the bearers of bad news, but it looks like the long-rumoured film is no longer happening, with a number of people pointing the finger at star Kim Cattrall for shutting it down.

The story initially broke when Sarah Jessica Parker gave a red carpet interview at the New York City Ballet Gala on Thursday night, telling an Extra reporter who asked about the film: “It’s over. We’re not doing it.”

Parker said that she was aware of the demand from fans to see Carrie and her gal pals return for some further copulation in a metropolis of some description, adding:  “I’m disappointed. We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story.”

As soon as the news broke, the Daily Mail published a piece laying the blame on Kim Cattrall, who plays the perpetually-horny Samantha on the show.

A ‘source’ claimed that, after the three other key cast members had signed up, Cattrall refused to budge, demanding that Warner Bros produce a number of other movies for her before she’d agree to take part.

The source claimed that Cattrall’s refusal is the “only reason” the new movie is not going ahead, saying:

Cast and crew don’t just show up to make a movie, they have to rearrange their lives. People turned down other jobs, were in the process of relocating to New York but she kept stalling and was always unavailable when answers from her were needed … This franchise made her and let’s be frank, it’s all she is really known for.

After the Daily Mail piece ran, the actress took to Twitter to defend herself, saying that she woke up to a “shitstorm” of negative comments and that her only “demand” was that she never do a third Sex & The City film in the first place.

She then got super shady, retweeting a fan who said that the second movie was “terrible as it was”, and another calling out the hypocrisy of certain fans for going in on her:

Wow. If you’ll forgive us for deploying an over-used but still extremely relevant and important Drag Race gif:

To add a little drama, cast member Willie Garson, who played Carrie’s mate Stanford on the show, took to social media to offer his two cents. In a Tweet that since appears to have been deleted, he linked to the Daily Mail article about Cattrall, saying “the reasons are true”:

He has since offered a more neutral statement, saying that he is “disappointed” for all involved and will “leave it at that.”

The other two main stars of the series, Kristin Davis (Charlotte) and Cynthia Nixon (Miranda) have not yet commented, although the latter is possibly maybe considering a run for governor of New York, so she may not have a lot of time on her hands anyway.
