The 2019 Golden Globe Awards might be over but we are still very much crying over Sandra Oh, her opening monologue as co-host, and her gong for Killing Eve.
Oh has made history, a lot of it.

The Canadian-born star is the first person of Asian descent to host the Golden Globes. She is also the first Asian woman to win a Golden Globe for her category – best lead actress in a television series, drama – in almost 40 years.
In 1981, Yoko Shimada was the first Asian woman to take home the award for her role in Shogun.
Not to mention, Oh has previously won a Golden Globe for best supporting actress in a series as Dr. Cristina Yang in Grey’s Anatomy.
This makes Oh the first actor of Asian descent to win multiple Golden Globes.
Today’s Golden Globe success was Oh’s first nomination and win for the BBC America series Killing Eve. In it, she stars as MI5 agent Eve Polastri who finds herself in a brutal game of cat-and-mouse with a hired assassin Villanelle, played by Jodie Comer.

In her speech, Oh thanked Killing Eve‘s showrunner and executive producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Luke Jennings, author of the original novellas.
But, Oh saved the best for last – a deeply moving thanks to her parents.
“Mostly there are two people here tonight that I am so grateful that they are here with me. I’d like to thank my mother and my father,” Oh said. “Mum and Dad, I love you,” she continued in Korean and bowed to her parents.
Is it the most moving thing you’ll see today? Yeah, probably.

Oh told Variety backstage “For Asian kids, to make our parents happy is so fulfilling. My parents are amazing and amazing people and internet sensations. They’re just so happy.”
