Sam Cochrane Slams Sophie Monk & The Entire “Awful” Bachelorette Experience

During last night’s Bachelor in Paradise finale, Australia cried some real ugly tears as Sam Cochrane got down on one knee and proposed to Tara Pavlovic.

It was an insanely cute ending (for now) to a whirlwind love story that Bachie fans never saw coming, with the very loved up couple now in full engagement party planning mode (they want to celebrate the engagement properly before moving on the wedding).

But it turns out that Sam very nearly didn’t do Bachelor In Paradise after getting burnt by The Bachelorette, which he appeared on as part of Sophie Monk‘s season.

“I think I was one of twenty men duped there,” he told PEDESTRIAN.TV this morning.

“I don’t need to be an arse to Sophie, but I wasn’t treated very well by her. And I felt like I probably took the responsibility to try and make sure her show was entertaining, which was the dumbest thing to do. I didn’t fall for her, I didn’t really fall for the whole thing, either.

“If I could go back in time I would have bailed out far earlier, I think I was just enjoying the free steak and the boys and the banter. So I stuck it out.

“I always respected her, and I just felt this strange responsibility to help her. It was kind of fucking weird, to even think that. But yeah, she tried to burn me after it, and I just thought, that was an awful experience.”

He said he’d only been back on the ground for around six weeks before talk of Bachelor In Paradise started.

“I was initially hesitant to do it, obviously, but at that point, I just wanted to get away from what The Bachelorette had created,” he said. “It wasn’t really me, that I saw on TV the whole time.”

Speaking to Yahoo7Be this morning, Tara said that Sophie “owes [Sam] an apology”.

“Sophie slammed Sam in a public forum. She called him a ‘performer’ and that’s not fair. Everyone assumed he was this awful person. The repercussions were hurtful.”

The public sledging occurred after Sam was cut from The Bachelorette. He told KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O that his “great” kiss with Sophie was cut from the episode, to which Sophie later told the show: “What happened is, I gave him a rose and pecked him to be polite, and he goes ‘Can I have a peck?’ and I go, “That was a peck”, and he grabbed my head and made me kiss him. I didn’t really kiss him back and it made me feel really uncomfortable. So if [the producers] cut it out, that’s probably why.”

Meanwhile, Sam – who told P.TV he was “shitting myself” when it came to the proposal – said he and Tara have been together for about six months now.

“It’s been fun,” he said. “She’s the best person to be locked up with.”

As for what’s next for the couple, apart from planning the engagement party, Sam says: “I just want to go walking with her, holding hands. That’s probably the first thing. We’ll go to the shop holding hands.”

He moves the phone aside and addresses someone else, and that when we realise Tara has been in the room the whole time.

“Do you like doughnuts, bubba?” he asks.

A little “yeah” is heard.

“I’ll get her a doughnut. I’ll get her a strawberry doughnut.”
