Another trailer, another day closer to the much-anticipated release of ‘Blade Runner 2049‘, the sequel to 1982’s original, but set 30 years into the future.
Today we score a new one in the form of a just-released international TV spot that asks more questions about what the heck is happening here than it answers, all set against a background of powerful action sequences and jump cuts between different visually arresting but cold and daunting settings.
The Denis Villenueve sequel features daddy Ryan Gosling as the new blade runner, LAPD Officer K, who, when he uncovers a secret, seeks out his predecessor who has been missing these last 30 years: Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford reprising his role in the OG film).
This trailer very much feels set up to make us all feel v uncomfortable in the presence of creepy villain Jared Leto, and to imply that Ry Gos is in a pretty threatening situation here – but tbh don’t you reckon he and Harrison Ford could destroy Jared Leto in a bare knuckles fight? A: yes.
“He’s got every gun in the city. I’ve got you,” says Robin Wright.
“They know you’re here,” says Harrison Ford.
“He’s on your tail,” Wright again.
It’s all very unnerving – but it’s okay, no time to sit with the tension, because EXPLOSIONS.
Still, to pose another unanswered question (there is a correct answer): fuck, marry, kill – Harrison Ford, Jared Leto, Ryan Gosling.
