‘Rogue One’ Spin-Off With Diego Luna Reportedly Starting Production This Year

The poor schmucks who fell in love with Star Wars on its initial release got three movies over the course of six years, followed by a sixteen year wait for a trio of movies that were almost entirely garbage. Nowadays, you can barely turn your head without being smacked in the face with a new addition to the franchise. A new trilogy, a spattering of standalone spin-off movies, animated series that are shockingly good, and, now, live-action TV shows with Werner Herzog in them.

While previous generations had to milk all of the juice they could out of constant rewatches of the films and patently insane expanded universe books, you will never want for more Star Wars content in your life. No longer do you have to conjure up the exploits of Diego Luna‘s Cassian Andor using the power of your imagination, they will be served to you in a TV series that was announced back in November and is reportedly set to start filming this year.

According to Production Weekly, the show is scheduled to commence production in October, which should see the show making it onto Disney‘s streaming service, Disney+, by 2020. The show will (obviously) be a prequel to the events of Rogue One and will “explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire“. Dope.

The Mandalorian, Disney’s other live-action series set in the Star Wars universe, will focus on an unnamed Mandalorian gunslinger, taking place between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. It entered production in October last year and is expected to be released late this year, which is also when we’re expecting Episode IX.

(Side note: This is my first story for 2019 and I got which year was next year and which year was last year very wrong on the first pass.)
