It’s been more than [checks notes] two years since the very random premiere of Rick and Morty season 3 hit our screens. But finally, tiny morsels of season 4 gold are starting to trickle into the news cycle. Today, it’s guest stars.

In their first interview about the upcoming 10-episode season, creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland revealed that their ability to enlist film and TV royalty for guest roles is still as strong as ever. In the past we’ve seen the likes of Jemaine Clement, Nathan Fillion, Werner Herzog, and even goddamn Susan Sarandon.

Of season 4, Roiland told Entertainment Weekly:

“We’ve got Paul Giamatti. That’s a hot scoop. We got Sam NeillTaika Waititi does a voice. Kathleen Turner.”

Obviously, Harmon and Roiland couldn’t give away too much about these guest roles but Roiland did say Neill’s character will be of the “same species as Taika’s character, and we wanted a Kiwi flavour to their species.”

The boys said they’re also trying to schedule something with none other than Kanye West, a very big fan of Rick and Morty. Cast your minds back to June of last year and you might remember how Kim Kardashian paid Harmon and Roiland to make West a birthday card, original song and all. ANYWAY, the duo said that if something does come about it won’t be seen in the upcoming season.

“But we love the idea of doing something with him,” Roiland said. “It’s just a discussion of what exactly that is, and then sitting down and talking with him. He had to reschedule, and then we had to reschedule. We need to sit down and chat about it. But it’s a very sincere and legitimate offer when we threw that out.”

Roiland also advised fans to watch all of season 3 before digging into the fourth season, which look, fair enough.

“Without giving anything away, we have serialised stuff we check in on now and then that’s sprinkled over the top of strong episodic episodes,” he shared. “To fans of the show, they’re going to want to watch them in order.”

Rick and Morty season 4 will finally premiere in November 2019.
