Variety reports Eon Productions and MGM have long sought Malek to play the villain in the 25th 007 flick, but have been unable to pin him down due to scheduling conflicts, primarily due to his ongoing work on television drama Mr. Robot.

Citing sources with insider knowledge of the situation, Collider now reports Malek’s schedule has been jostled to allow a commitment to both projects.

Would that make him an exceptionally busy dude? Yes. Would it be cool as hell? Also yes, considering he would join Mads Mikkelsen and fellow Academy Award winners Javier Bardem and Christoph Waltz as recent Bond baddies.

Collider has also suggested an agreement between Malek and the Bond team has taken so long due to speculation over his Oscars win. Now the Bohemian Rhapsody star is the proud owner of a small gold statuette, Malek could feasibly command a bigger fee – and could help draw a bumper audience to the upcoming flick.

The film, which is expected to be Daniel Craig‘s last in the titular role, will be directed by Maniac mastermind Cary Joji Fukunaga. It’s slated for an American debut on April 8, 2020, meaning Malek better sign on pretty bloody quick to make the cut.
