Extremely Spooky Podcast ‘Welcome To Night Vale’ Is Copping Its Own TV Show

It’s a mere matter of time before the podcast revolution fully engulfs the world of TV, and it can’t happen soon enough. On the crest of that wave is the ultra-popular and insanely spooky Welcome to Night Valewhich is officially headed to television thanks to a development deal with US cable giant FX.

The podcast, created by Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor, centres around the fictional town of Night Vale, a place where all conspiracy theories are real and spooky goings on are regular occurrences. In addition to being a wildly popular podcast, the series has spawned a pair of books, and a wildly successful series of live shows that has toured across the world, including a visit to Australia in early 2016.

The TV adaptation will see Better Call Saul executive producer Gennifer Hutchison serve as the leading creative force, with both Fink and Cranor serving as executive producers on the new series.

The co-creating duo issued a short statement confirming the adaptation, sharing their enthusiasm for working with Hutchison on the project.

We’ve never met anyone in the industry who understands our world and approach to storytelling better than Gennifer does. We are lucky to be working with her, as well as FX – a network with a long history of creating excellent television.

Though the idea of a podcast making the leap to a TV show might be a little hard to grasp, Night Vale‘s intensely weird and unique storytelling lends itself to a visual medium perhaps way more naturally than any of its contemporaries. Think of it like a grown-up Are You Afraid Of The Dark?, as an example.

Either way, it’s gonna be a good bloody thing.

No word yet on when you’ll be seeing the results on-screen, but until then keep worshipping the mighty glow cloud.
