Paul Rudd Is Reportedly In The Mix For A Very Fast ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ Movie

Seldom does news of a movie come along that motivates you to sell all your belongings in order to camp out at the cinema and secure front row position for the premiere months before it even begins shooting, but Paul Rudd in a Sonic the Hedgehog movie is EXACTLY this writer’s kind of jam. So if you don’t mind, we’re gonna smash through this as quickly as possible because I’ve got a line to form.

Rudd is reportedly being eyed for what’s said to be a “major role” in a big screen adaptation of SEGA’s incredibly fast spiky blue dude.

Sonic movie has been in the works for a number of years now; the project was initially announced back in 2014 with Sony Pictures signing on as the distributor. As movie projects are wont to do, delays occurred, leading to the company dropping the film last year. In stepped Paramount Pictures to pick up the slack, and now it seems that not only have they scored a leading man worthy of the property, but that filming will also be commencing reasonably soon.

Per a report on That Hashtag Show, Rudd would be playing the role of “Tom,” a human cop who befriends Sonic, with the duo teaming up to take on the film’s antagonist, Dr. Robotnik, who no doubt has some sort of animal-ensaring nefarious plan up his sleeves.

Rather than being a straight-up animation, the film is now reportedly set to be a live-action/CGI hybrid, and I cannot stress highly enough how on board I am with this.

Make it gritty and bleak. Give me Who Framed Roger Rabbit Part 2 but for ring-horny hedgehogs.

Have Sonic be a beaten-down, washed-up loser who has to search his soul and re-learn how to go fast.

Make Knuckles the corrupt Senator preaching human-hedgehog harmony but secretly exploiting his own people for financial gain.

Give Tails the most cigarette-burned, Mickey Rourke-esque voice and have him own a bar. Then Paul Rudd walks in asking for help and Tails is all like “Prevent Sonic from getting a Chaos Emerald by running into all the bombs on the Bonus Levels? Son, I haven’t done that in years.

At the very least, give us a balls-out power metal re-recording of the underrated cartoon theme song from the early 90s.

No word on when the film will see the light of day, but filming is reportedly scheduled to begin in Vancouver over the American summer.
