New ‘Shazam!’ Trailer Takes A Cheeky Dig At The Dark Knight & His Moody Lair

Shazam!

Shazam! has a cheeky new trailer out and even though it’s just a tad short, it’s still a bunch of fun.

Set in the DC Universe, Shazam! chucks us into the world of 14-year-old foster kid Billy Batson (Asher Angel) who, thanks to an ancient wizard (Djimon Hounsou), can turn into a super ripped adult superhero (Zachary Levi) by shouting out, “SHAZAM!”

Literally a kid on the inside, Shazam decides to have a little fun with his newfound powers (and adult age) but the reality of it all suddenly comes crashing down when he finds himself face to face with the villainous Doctor Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).

It‘s Jack Dylan Grazer also stars in the film as Billy’s best mate Freddy.

Add in some delightful humour and you’ve got yourself a superhero flick.

Speaking of which, this latest trailer appears to take a couple of digs at ol’ Batman.

First up is the trailer’s tag line: “He’s not so serious” which is a bit of a reference to The Dark Knight‘s “Why so serious?”

Then, you have that little bit right at the end in which Shazam and Freddy go hunting for a ~ lair ~.

“If you have a location like on a cliff, like a castle-lesque-type thing -”

“Overlooking some water,” Shazam adds.

“Overlooking some water, splashing on rocks and stuff then we will take that,” Freddy says.

Classic.

Shazam! will fly into cinemas April 5.
