Starring Natalie Portman as a biologist tasked with exploring a patch of Earth abandoned by humans and reclaimed by… something, it’s the second directorial outing for Ex Machina auteur Alex Garland.
The trailer, which also showcases Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, and an incapacitated Oscar Isaac, hints at all of the disturbing forces that propelled later additions of Jeff VanderMeer’s Southern Reach trilogy to the New York Times Bestseller list.
