Netflix’s new crime series is hitting the streaming giant next month. And by next month I mean September 20. I know there’s been a hot plethora of crime and true crime dramas over the past couple of aeons but this one has David Tennant in it. As in Doctor Who, DI Alec Hardy, Killgrave, so we’re (I am) going to watch the hell out of it. But also, it genuinely sounds pretty cool.
The interrogation / multinational drama is called Criminal and according to Netflix, every episode will take place exclusively within the confines of a police interrogation suite. It’s new, it’s different, it’s enticing.
Netflix described the 12-episode season as a “stripped down, cat-and-mouse drama that will focus on the intense mental conflict between the police officer and the suspect in question.”
Three episodes each are set across France, Spain, Germany, and the UK. Episodes run for 45 minutes and are in its local language. If you’re not yet convinced, Criminal comes from the mind of a Killing Eve writer George Kay. TICK.
Since this is an anthology, there are a slew of actors in it so I’ll just name a couple you’ll probably recognise. Tennant, Hayley Atwell (Captain America, Black Mirror), Nicholas Pinnock (Marcella, Counterpart), and Rochenda Sandall (Line of Duty) star in the UK episodes. Jérémie Renier and Nathalie Baye are in the French episodes; Peter Kurth and Christian Berkel in the German episodes, and Carmen Machi and Inma Cuesta star in the Spanish.
Criminal will hit the streaming giant, September 20. There’s no official trailer yet but Netflix did release this cool announcement video which has Tennant upfront. Again, he’s the perfect clickbait.
Add it to the damn list.
SIDE NOTE: Since you’re here, I’m going to go ahead and assume you’re a big ol’ fan of Mindhunter. WELL, season 2 finally hits Netflix this week – Friday, August 16. If you haven’t already, immediately clear your entire weekend.
