A TV Exec Spilled Rare Netflix Ratings And ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Fkn Cleans Up

We probably didn’t need a Disney executive to tell us that Grey’s Anatomy is still monstrously popular, but an uncommon admission from a Disney executive has quantified the McThirst: 200,000 Netflix users start watching Grey’s Anatomy from Episode 1 every bloody month.

Ben Sherwood, who serves as president of Disney/ABC Television Group, shared that rare nugget of information regarding the streaming platform’s top-secret numbers during a chat at the University of Southern California on Saturday.

“2.4 million people a year discover ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ on Netflix,” Sherwood said, before saying the show’s continual on-demand success has helped to propel the show into its 13th season.

Such an admission is unusual for a couple of reasons: firstly, since Netflix isn’t beholden to advertisers eager to stake their claim on prime entertainment real estate, they simply don’t need to publicly reveal which shows are pulling in numbers.

Secondly, there’s every possibility that shows scooped up for a second life on Netflix somewhat underperform compared to their broadcast TV glory days, so revealing their metrics in the year of our lord 2017 is counter-intuitive.

We’re sure the 200,000 figure would be a lot higher if the show was available on the Australian version of Netflix, but hey, it’s cool. Nobody is ever more than 20 metres away from a box-set given as a Christmas gift, anyway.
