Netflix Announces Olivia Colman As Claire Foy’s Replacement In ‘The Crown’

Queen Olivia Colman is now going to actually be one: Netflix has just announced her as the replacement for Claire Foy in The Crown, to portray Queen Elizabeth into middle age.

Series creator Peter Morgan has always said they were going to recast Queen Liz as the story moved on, rather that “age up” Foy… although he said it in a pretty creepy way, tbh.

“What’s so beautiful about Claire is her youth,” he told Variety in 2016. “You can’t ask someone to act middle-aged. Someone has to bring their own fatigue to it. The feelings we all have as 50-year-olds are different than the feelings we all have as 30-year-olds. That informs everything we do.”

Colman, who both won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Emmy for her role in The Night Manager, will be joining the show for seasons three and four. Given so that season two is just about to start, we’re still a way off from seeing her don the poshest of British accents and a rampant thing for Corgis.

Still. She’ll always be Sophie from Peep Show to us.
