Holy Shit, ‘Neighbours’ Is Going Full ‘Riverdale’ With A High School Spin-Off

Legendary Australian soapie Neighbours has landed a spin-off miniseries, and it sounds a whole bloody lot like an Australian Riverdale.

Variety reports Fremantle, the firm behind the long-running show, is preparing to launch Neighbours: Erinsborough High.

The five-episode stretch will focus on a group of Year 12 students, whose final exam preparations are interrupted by the disappearance of a popular student.

“It will explore issues universally troubling teens today – bullying, mental illness, sexuality, cultural diversity, parental and peer pressure, and teacher-student relationships,” a Fremantle rep said in a statement.

Sound familiar?

The show is set to include several characters embedded in the OG Neighbours, and a promo shot for the series includes history-making actress Georgie Stone.

The series is also set to include Olivia Junkeer, Lachlan Millar, Benny Turland, alongside newcomers Grace O’Sullivan and Darius Amarfio-Jefferson.

Given Neighbours‘ reputation as a career-launching endeavour, we imagine those young guns will absolutely act their guts out.

While Neighbours: Erinsborough High sounds like something you’d find on Netflix, the series will appear locally on 10 Play, and in the UK – the adopted home of Neighbours – on Channel 5’s on-demand streaming service.

Expect Neighbours: Erinsborough High to rock up some time in the not-too-distant future. We can’t wait to see the triumphs and defeats, the epic highs and lows of high school… swimming carnivals.
