The final season of the Sam Esmail-created drama starring Rami Malek will begin production in New York for a premiere in 2019.

The show’s fourth season was initially set to include eight episodes but THR reveals that 12 episodes have been ordered to conclude the series.

Insiders told the publication that producers including Esmail discussed the idea of finishing the series with a fifth season but they ultimately decided to end it at four with an extended season.

Mr. Robot’s official Instagram account revealed the news with a post that read ‘The final season 2019’ accompanied by the following caption:

“Every consequence. Every key stroke. Everything has lead to this. The final season of #MrRobot arrives in 2019.”

Hardcore fans of the series shouldn’t be too shook by its upcoming conclusion as Esmail has previously been v. clear about not wanting the show to be too long-term.

“I’ve always said it’s four or five seasons, and I’ve said that because I think it’s somewhere in between,” Esmail told THR. “Whether that means the next two seasons are two short seasons, or it could technically still be two full 10-episode seasons, we’re still kind of figuring that out. It’s something the writers’ room and I take very seriously. We never want to feel like we’re treading water. Hopefully it fits into two more seasons, but we’re trying to figure out that number.”

The series began in 2015 and each of its three seasons have received universal acclaim.

Here’s hoping they go out with a bang!
