Michelle Williams Is Down To Play A Ghost If ‘Dawson’s Creek’ Comes Back

At this point, it’s starting to feel like every second TV show is a revival of a ’90s classic, so the time could well be ripe to revisit the kids of the tender, angsty teen soap Dawson’s Creek and see how they’re coping with adult life.

The main cast of the show, including core foursome James Van Der BeekKatie HolmesJoshua Jackson and Michelle Williams, recently reunited for Entertainment Weekly to celebrate its 20th anniversary, and talk of a possible revival did, of course, come up.

One small hitch in terms of getting the old gang back together is that one of the gang is actually dead – poor Jen Lindley, as you may recall, was killed off in the series finale, following the revelation that she was suffering from a fatal heart condition.

When asked about her chances of being asked back for a possible Dawson’s Creek revival, Williams seemed somewhat down for the possibility, and revealed that she’d be happy to just kinda hang out and haunt the residents of Capeside:

“I guess I feel neither here nor there about it. If there’s ever talk of a reunion show or something, I’m like … it would be so funny to be a ghost and like show up in people’s dreams.”

The show’s creator Kevin Williamson told Entertainment Weekly about the decision to bump off a beloved character in the finale, saying his attitude at the time was:

“We’ve dealt with so much – what’s the one thing yet to deal with? And that’s the death of one of their own, one of their contemporaries, one of their circle. I thought if we kill Jen that’s going to force our other three into action. If they haven’t made a decision, they’ll be forced to make a decision. Nothing will make you contemplate your future faster than knowing you might not have one. So, I chose Jen as a way for Joey, Dawson, and Pacey to finally pull their lives together. And to thrust them into adulthood once and for all.”

While there are no plans for a Dawson’s revival at this point, Williamson said that if he did one, it would likely include a divorced Joey and Pacey trying to raise their family, and a “shattered” Dawson after his dream movie-directing career falls apart.

There would totally be room for a Ghost Jen in that scenario – Kevin Willamson, if you’re listening, please make this happen.
