New ‘Mission Impossible’ Stops Production After Tom Cruise Smashes Ankle

Paramount Pictures have been forced to postpone filming for ‘Mission: Impossible 6‘ after its star Tom Cruise broke his ankle while attempting to jump between two buildings on the weekend.

The 55-year-old Cruise injured himself on set in London, when he tried to take a running leap between two rooftops and ended up slamming into the wall of the opposite building. You remember it: the footage of the incident released earlier this week had the world in a collective wince.

Cruise, a man who insists on doing his own stunts for some reason, then hauling himself up onto the roof and limped towards the crew, who lifted him via a cable back onto the top of the first building.

Despite Cruise’s injury, the latest movie in the seemingly neverending franchise – the first came out all the way back in 1996, meaning the series has been around for longer than some of our readers and staff have been alive – remains on schedule for release at the end of July next year.

In a statement, Paramount said:

During production on the latest ‘Mission: Impossible’ film, Tom Cruise broke his ankle while performing a stunt.

Production will go on hiatus while Tom makes a full recovery, and the film remains on schedule to open 27 July 2018.

Tom wants to thank you all for your concern and support and can’t wait to share the film with everyone next summer.

Before the weekend’s accident, Tom ‘Danger’ Cruise had already performed a number of his own stunts for the new film, including driving a motorbike into a car in Paris and parachuting in Oxfordshire.
