Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Timothee Chalamet Set To Star In ‘Little Women’

Following on from the success of her acclaimed Lady Bird, Oscar-nominated director Greta Gerwig is said to be eyeing off an adaptation of the classic novel Little Women, with a potential cast that is presently looking good as heck.

Per reports in trade publication Variety, Meryl Streep and Emma Stone are both in talks for lead roles, as are Saoirse Ronan and your dreamy indie movie boyfriend Timothee Chalamet, both of whom worked with Gerwig on Lady Bird.

Little Women tells the coming-of-age story of four sisters in Civil War era Massachusetts – with their father away, the girls take guidance from their staunch mother, perform romantic plays in the attic, and fall in love with various boys.

The story was famously adapted for the screen in 1994 by Australian director Gillian Armstrong, with a cast that included Winona RyderKirsten DunstClaire Danes, Christian Bale, Gabriel Byrne and Susan Sarandon.

The exact roles for Gerwig’s adaptation are unknown at this point, although it seems fairly likely that Stone and Ronan would be playing two of the four little women in question, and Streep would be playing the family matriarch Margaret.

It is understood that Columbia Pictures is in the process of casting the role of Beth, and will be screen testing actresses alongside Emma Emma Stone throughout next week.
