Well fuck me sideways, here’s our first look at Meryl Streep in hit HBO series Big Little Lies.
The three-time Oscar winner has joined the incredible female-led cast for season two, coming in as the mother-in-law of Nicole Kidman‘s Celeste.
“First day on the set with Meryl and ‘my’ darling boys!” Kidman wrote in an Instagram caption, posting an image of herself, Meryl and Cameron and Nicholas Crovetti, the twins who play her kids Josh and Max.
Get around this:
Streep, who will play the deceased Alex Perry‘s (Alexander Skarsgård) mum Mary Louise Wright, might have donned a brown wig for the role, but she looks classic Streep: impossibly elegant, what with those rimless glasses and draped pyjamas.
The chances of HBO hiring – again – Meryl fucking Streep to play the simple role of a supportive, if bereaved, mother-in-law feels next to none, so best guess is that her character has come to town to snoop into the details around her son’s death.
Fuel to the fire? HBO posted the same pic with the sinister-sounding caption, “family is everything”. Season two is going to be drama city.
Star Reese Witherspoon (who plays Madeline Martha Mackenzie) also posted the same pic, with the caption: “Can’t wait for y’all to see what we have in store!” With Meryl? Mayhem, probably.
