Christian Bale might gain and lose weight at outrageously fast pace for the sake of “drama” or “the craft” or “commitment to a role,” but Rob McElhenney of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s wild body transformation has been done for a far nobler cause: incredibly dumb jokes.

The man behind the beautifully vain Mac has swung from one end of the pendulum – where he gained an absurd amount of weight just so the rest of the cast could hang shit on his character for an entire season – to the other – where he is appearing in the current season of the show absolutely jacked as shit.

The reason, once again, is simple: McElhenney figured it’d be funny. And following the premiere of the show’s 13th season late last week, McElhenney figured he’d explain exactly how he managed to get it done.

In an Instagram post over the weekend, Mac explained exactly how he made the transformation into the muscle-bound freak you see before you.

Look, it’s not that hard. All you need to do is lift weights six days a week, stop drinking alcohol, don’t eat anything after 7pm, don’t eat any carbs or sugar at all, in fact just don’t eat anything you like, get the personal trainer from Magic Mike, sleep nine hours a night, run three miles a day, and have a studio pay for the whole thing over a six to seven month span. I don’t know why everyone’s not doing this. It’s a super realistic lifestyle and an appropriate body image to compare oneself to.

Well when he puts it like that, it’s bonkers we’re not all ripped units. Bonkers, I tell you!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to pitch a wildly-successful 13-season comedy series that will allow a television studio to give me the time and funds necessary to achieve all my fitness goals.
