Octavia Spencer, who doesn’t love her? She’s a bloody legend and an Academy Award winner. In her latest movie – from Blumhouse – she stars as a terrifyingly unhinged woman who has some fun torturing and/or murdering a bunch of teenagers.
Alright, so here’s the gist of the movie:
Spencer stars as Sue Ann, who is asked by a teenager named Maggie to buy alcohol for her and her mates. Sue Ann sees this as an opportunity to make some friends so she even offers up her basement as a place for the kids to party… but there are rules. One kid must stay sober, you’re not allowed to swear and you’re not allowed to go upstairs.
As the teens get to know Sue Ann, their dream opportunity to party and get pissed turns into a bloody nightmare.
The film also stars Luke Evans, Juliette Lewis, Diana Silvers, and McKaley Miller to name a few.
Blumhouse are the folks behind Split, Get Out, The Purge, Happy Death Day, Paranormal Activity, and Halloween so expect to nervously sweat a lot.
Ma will hit cinemas on May 31. Hopefully Australia cops it around the same time, too.
In some more… upbeat news, Spencer recently joined the cast of the new Witches movie based on the beloved children’s novel of the same name by Roald Dahl.
Per Variety, Spencer will star as little Luke‘s grandmother – otherwise known as Grandmamma.
Anne Hathaway has already been cast in the film as the one and only Grand High Witch, played by Anjelica Huston in the 1990 flick.
