IT BEGINS: Lady Gaga Scores 1st Big ‘A Star Is Born’ Gong W/ Golden Globe Win

Critics made it clear the first few months of 2019 would likely be dominated by Lady Gaga notching accolades for her work in A Star Is Born, and that potential purple patch just kicked off with a Golden Globe.

Gaga was handed the gong for Best Original Song for Shallow, the big ol’ tune her on-screen character Ally belts alongside co-star and director Bradley Cooper.

After acquiring the titular globe from Taylor Swift and Idris Elba, Gaga thanked her co-writers – including hitmaker Mark Ronson – for providing support without overriding her creative direction.

“As a woman in music, it is really hard to be taken seriously as a musician and a songwriter,” Gaga said, adding “they lifted me up, they supported me.”

It’s her first major accolade for A Star Is Born in this awards cycle, and it’s not the only opportunity for A Star Is Born to win at this particular ceremony. Cooper’s flick is up for five awards in total, including Best Motion Picture. Gaga herself is also up for Best Actress for her performance, which cemented her as a triple-threat nonpareil.

It’s not even her first Golden Globe, either. Gaga won for Best Actress in a Mini-Series or Television Film back in 2015 for her turn in American Horror Story: Hotel.
